I Love a Bargain

People don't believe me sometimes when I talk about getting free or nearly free items, so I wanted to give some examples from CVS this week. I was using $9 in EB's earned a few weeks ago, so my out of pocket spending was less than $2 and I earned $2 in EB's.

Right Guard and Dry Idea deodorants are B1G1 free in the ad
last month there was a B1G1 coupon in sunday insert (I have six of them)
when combined with the store savings, they are free (not $3.99-$4.99 apiece)
I will get twelve free this week during the sale...

Purex laundry detergent (3-in-1 sheets) $5.99
use $3 MQ from sunday insert
pay $2.99
get $2 in Extra Bucks

Zegerid OTC 14 ct. $9.99
use $3 MQ from sunday insert
pay $6.99
get $7 in Extra Bucks

Blink Tears $7.99
use $1 MQ from sunday insert
pay $6.99
get $7.99 in Extra Bucks

I also picked up 16 toothbrushes today for a total cost of $3.50 finding GUM brand and Reach 4-packs on 75% off clearance (in the oral section) using MQ's on each.

Remember two things—ask for a raincheck if your store is out of the item from the ad and you will get the sale price and EB's whenever they are restocked, even if it's next month; and you can make more than one transaction, using EB's earned in one to pay for the item in the next.

Welcome to my new friends from Liv It Church! I enjoyed meeting everyone and spending time with old friends Traci, Joanzey and Sylvia.

Hi to everyone else!  I've been so busy working on end of the month stuff, sorry it's been slow this week.

Just a few tips for this week's ads:

Have you tossed your papers yet?  If not, in the Parade or USA section there is a 50 cent coupon for Walgreen's brand pain relievers.  These are on sale B1G1 this week, so you can apply two coupons for additional savings of $1.

Softsoap 7.5-8.5 ounce bottles are B1G1 (price not listed)
use two 35-cent off MQ's from this week's insert

There are so many in-store coupons in the ad this week for school supplies and groceries, too many to list.  Even if you haven't got someone going to school this fall, you can get bargains on paper, tape, pens, scissors, mailing envelopes, etc.

CVS - scan you customer care card and you should get a store coupon for 50 cents off a GREEN BAG TAG, making it 49 cents.  Attach it to a reusable bag (any kind) and bring it with you every time you shop at CVS.  You will be rewarded with $1 Extra Buck every 4th time you use it (it will print on your receipt).

Free item - get the U by Kotex pads or tampons and get EB's for full price $4.99
(no coupons available that I can find)

Match-ups from this week's inserts:
Buy five Soft soap body wash @ $3 ($15)
use five MQ's for $1 off any Soft soap body wash
out of pocket cost $10 for 5
plus earn $5 in EB's
Note:  If you made the transaction above on U by Kotex, you would have $5 EB's to apply towards your body wash purchase, making your out-of-pocket (OOP) $5 and still earn $5 EB's!

Schick Disposables multi-pack B1G1 (about $7.29)
use two $3 MQ off any Schick disposable (coupon is regional)
final cost for 2 packages $1.29

Save even more:
Sign up for email here and get a $4 off coupon off a $20 purchase (must have a CVS Customer Card, so make sure you get one in the store!) first time enrollees only.  Dollars off coupons should be tendered first before you hand in all of your other coupons for maximum savings.  That way, you maintain a higher total initially.

At both stores I was able to almost break even, making as much in rewards as I spent, and that is always my goal, although I bought just a few things.

Walgreens
If you have Register Rewards to spend, your out of pocket will be even less, and if you don't, your spending will pretty closely match the amount of RR's you earn in this transaction:

earn $5 in Register Rewards

buy Colgate Total toothpaste $3.49
use $1 off MQ
earn $3.50 in RR's

Total out of pocket - $8.38 + tax
earn $8.50 in Register Rewards

There are terrific deals on school/office supplies if your store is well-stocked (mine was out of most of the cheap deals already) so look through the ad.

Mars/m&m candies are buy one get one free for the store's sale, and the manufacturer's coupon from this past week was for buy one m&m's any flavor, get the new pretzel flavor for free.  Therefore, they are both free with coupon.

When you swipe your card this week, you will earn free accumulated Extra Bucks based on how much you spent in the store in the previous quarter!

Now for Walgreen's deals.  Did you happen to see the 3-day sale flyer in yesterday's paper?  If you haven't got it, you can see it in the store.

There are several items to be had for $1 or less after Register Rewards, such as:

Twizzlers licorice bags, various flavors on sale $3/2

Crest with Scope or Oral B toothbrushes on sale for $2.99
use 75 cents MQ from sunday insert
earn $3 in RR's, making this free with overage after RR's!

Final Thoughts
If you bought each of these deals, your out-of-pocket would be $10.50 plus tax and you would earn $8 in Register Rewards.  If you are learning to "roll over" your RR's, you may already have some to spend on your purchases this week that will lower the cost out-of-pocket.  For instance, if you already had $6 in RR's from last week and you applied it to your $11 bill this week, you would spend only $5 OOP and earn $8 in RR's to apply next week... got it?  That is the goal, less cash out, more stuff in your bag!

Super clearance find this week (look in the back of the store):
I found Reach toothbrushes in packs of 3 brushes marked down to $1.50, so I grabbed six $1 off any Reach toothbrush coupons and walked away with 18 toothbrushes for $3.

A few more deals you may want to take advantage of:
Heartburn sufferers, if you use an over-the-counter acid reducer, you might want to try Zegerid since you can get it for free after rebate.  Here's how:

1. Purchase  the 28-ct. package for $18.99 and use the $4 off coupon from the Smart Source flyer 6/20, making your out-of-pocket $14.99.
2. You will earn $3 in RR's with your purchase.
3. Send for rebate valued up to $12.99 with mail-in-offer in SS flyer with coupon.

You will pay $15 up front, get $13 back in a rebate check, making your cost $2, and you will earn $3 in RR's—a one dollar profit.

Free 12 ounce Renu eye solution after RR's ($7.50)
I don't have any coupons for this, but is entirely worth it if you use the solution.

I wanted to draw your attention to clearance values in makeup.

At Walgreens, look for bright ORANGE clearance tags above or below the items.  I paid $1 for each of these items as they were marked down 75% off from $8 to $2, less $1 coupons.

At CVS, look for GREEN 75% stickers directly on the product, or PINK 50% off.  The retail value of the seven makeup items I bought was about $75, and I paid less than $8 for all after discounts and coupons.
